Cruel and unusual punishment?

So this morning I'm listening to the radio and they had this conversation with the listeners about the punishment that some school is dishing out to their kids.

Apparently some school somewhere is disciplining their students, from grades 4 - 8, by making them clean the toilets in the washrooms whenever they have done something that warrants punishment. Everyone was up in arms about it saying that it was cruel and that the ages of these children make cleaning toilets a bit much.

HA! let me tell you something, i learned how to clean a toilet when i was 7! you know why? not because it was punishment per say, but because every Sunday my family woke up, put on the ABBA CD, and us kids would pick a room to clean. I hated being given washroom duty ( haha duty get it?) but sometimes that's the way the cookie crumbles and i had to learn how to properly clean something. Its called discipline.

Kids need it, it gives them a sense of responsibility and teaches them skills such as doing something from start to finish, or as my step mom would call it " not doing a half ass job, because you mid as well not do it at all if your not going to do it properly." I have lived my life by those words. Every time I'm at work and i think " whatever this is good enough" i get this image of a floating head that looks just like my step mom, this floating head is generally see through and ghost like, and it says " if your not gonna do it properly just don't do it" and so i push myself to complete the job properly!

These kids are learning a valuable skill. It is also teaching them that every thing you do has a consequence. I mean shit, back in the day didn't they have rulers to hit the students with? in my day i had to stand at the door in the hallway.. which is humiliating because everyone knows your standing there like a moron because you did something. So you try and pretend like your there for a reason... like taking tape off the walls or tying your shoes, now THAT is cruel!!!

I digress, point is i think its a great idea to have these kids clean toilets. Maybe this generation will think twice about bringing guns to school because as soon as they even think it, the thought of shit will waft through their minds. Or maybe they will realize that if they don't do their homework they will be forced to clean shit for the rest of their lives! you know what else, maybe they should throw in some ABBA while their at it, their music is enjoyable and may also teach them how to become dancing queens!! GOD i love ABBA!
