have a little faith in me

Me and my sister were talking a few weeks ago about the state of people today, i mean their obvious lack of compassion or empathy, the violence and the hate, which to her thinking clearly indicates the end of days.

I guess after reading what has been going on you could believe that as a human race we might start to pick eachother off.. maybe we'll all go crazy.... i could see that. But i dont think its because of a conspiracy the way she does, i dont think it has anything to do with chem trails, or the media, or subliminal messages or chemicals in your food. I think that its a loss of faith.

I dont think you need to believe in God or Jesus, Allah or Buddha, Krishna or Vishnu. But you need to believe in something other then money and power and greed. You need to care less about your job and more about your family. My family didnt have a lot while i was growing up, i never noticed the lack of new clothes but i remember the time we all went tabogoning, and i dont recall the size of my bedroom but i know i never had to be in it... i was busy spending time with people who loved me.

We need to care less about our cellphones and our conference calls, we need to look people in the eyes when we speak to them. We need other people, we need leisure. We need to enjoy being a human, not a robot. We need less cubicles, and less "flexible hours" we need less fear, fear of other people, fear of difference, fear of individuality. We need to say please and thank you, goodmorning, goodnight and mean it. We need respect, we need to literally see other people, hear other people. You cant live like sheep, bumping into eachother, all walking in a line. You cant live with your headphones in and your eyes cast down.

Thats what makes us crazy... im convinced of it. I dont know everything, im not wise and all knowing, but the fact that we dont believe in eachother, that we dont believe in the power of kindness and consideration, conversation and a smile, understanding and patience, leisure, culture, family? How can one not feel alone? not feel dark? how can that not make you crazy?

But then again, knowing in your gut that someone would never walk into an elementary school and shoot a rifle at a child, and then see it on your television....  how can you not stop believing? i know i almost did today.
