Ohhh the politically correct, and the best moment of 2010

Okay i was planning on writing this whole speil about how i dont mind saying Happy Holidays but dont really agree with it.

Pretty much this morning i was tasked with signing a bunch of "Happy Holiday" cards because thats what assistants  marketing coordinators do! so whatever,  i start signing and i noticed about 30 cards in that i had been writing "Merry Christmas" in every one... oops?!

But then that got me to thinking... shouldn't we be celebrating our differences. I mean do you really want to just cover everyone with one big uniformed blanket of "Holiday"? we are all from different places religiously or culturally and personally id rather celeberate and recognize the difference, then shut my eyes and my mouth in fear of the things that make us unique.

If i say Merry Christmas, i don't mean any offence by it. I in no way have said " Merry Christmas, and oh btw whatever holiday your celebrating this season i dont give a fuck, because mines better!"  Im just saying   " be happy, be merry, be safe" in the way that ive been raised to say those things at this time, and that is with saying  Merry Christmas.

But then i remembered i hate the holiday season anyway, so fuck it!

i also i wanted to share one of the best moments of 2010 with you guys:

Sisterly Love: I stumbled into my house at about 2am on a saturday night in August,  drunk as a skunk to find Lex sitting at the computer completing a brochure for her employer... her obviously evil employer!

"what in the hell do you think your doing?" i asked her " umm working" she answered back. "No no no my dear, its a saturday night... we drinkin!" so i pulled out a bottle of wine from our parents liquor cabinet and we proceeded to stumble around our suburban neighbourhood drinking from the bottle.

i found out alot of things about my sister that i hadnt known. A secret that she had kept to herself about her father for years. I haven't told a single soul that story and im not going to tell it now, but i was happy she shared, i think it helped her to lift the weight of it off her mind.

The thing  about step sisters is that you have been thrown  into a relationship with them. You may be housemates by force, but you really do become sisters by choice in a strange way.

And i think we realized at around 6am on Sunday, after our drunken adventure, that a sibling is really the only one who gets it. If that "it" is your perspective on life or the things that set you off, or make you feel content, they get it regardless of if they agree or not.

This may seem overly mushy and shit, but i think that if i never got dealt the cards that won me such a big and blended family, that i wouldn't be able to find the contentment i feel each day from anywhere else.

Anywho, enough of that... Merry Christmas my dears.

Loved this post, as I have a step-sister too (as well as two 'biological' sisters and to be honest, I see myself as having three sisters! But you're right...it does feel as though you've been thrown into the relationship :)
